Peter Russo

Altamont

Peter S. Russo, age 74, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Amityville, NY to Salvatore and Agnes Russo. Peter was a graduate of Lindenhurst High School and Oneonta State College and worked as a computer programmer at MetLife for 45 years.

He was very active and enjoyed running, bowling, and playing tennis, and was a loyal fan of the former Brooklyn Dodgers. He had a deep admiration for Mohammad Ali, and played weekly games of poker with his neighborhood friends (he won often enough to annoy most of those friends). He loved music, especially The Beatles and Queen. His favorite movie was Planes, Trains, and Automobiles — a story that is equal parts laughter and compassion, which is the same spirit that he embodied.

He was an incredible storyteller, often standing up from the dinner table and using the longstanding Italian tradition of emphatic hand gestures to illustrate his most important points. 

He is survived by his soulmate of 44 years Rosemary (Lang) Russo of Altamont, NY, his oldest daughter Kristin Russo and her wife Avanthi Govender, his youngest (and craziest) daughter Aly Russo, and his sister (“seester”) Rosemarie Romano. 

In addition to his parents, Peter is predeceased by his two half-brothers, Joseph and Gene Russo, his cousin Reynolds Ridulfo, and his brother-in-law Vincent Romano. 

A Celebration of Life will be held this summer.
